The book · Paperback

Not running faster. Building something that runs.

Built to RUN is a practical guide for owners of regulated, knowledge-heavy practices who have become the system. It shows how to move the business out of your head and into a practice where compliance is produced by the work itself, not assembled when someone asks.

"Every file. Every decision. Every compliance question. Every client phone call that came in on a Saturday. I was the system. And a system that depends on one person isn't a system at all. It's a liability with a good reputation."
From the Introduction, Why This Book Exists
Who it's for

For the expert who became the bottleneck.

Written from inside a migration practice and an education business, for owners of any practice where the stakes are regulatory and the evidence matters.

You, if

Everything runs through you

You're good at the work, the practice grew because of it, and now every file, decision and Saturday phone call still lands on your desk.

You, if

The evidence exists, somewhere

Across inboxes, folders, spreadsheets and the memory of staff. Pulling it together for a review would take days.

You, if

You'd fail the holiday test

If you left for two weeks without notice, cases would stall, clients would escalate and deadlines would arrive unseen.

Migration agents, education providers and anyone running a compliance-heavy, knowledge-dependent business. As the book puts it: the application changes, the architecture doesn't.

What's inside

From personally indispensable to structurally sound.

Read in order, each chapter builds on the one before. Already further along? The self-assessment in Appendix A points you to the chapter that fits where you are now.

  1. Intro

    Why This Book Exists

The 2009 starting point, the audit that changed how I saw the practice, and the pattern every practice follows.

  2. Part 1

    The Operating Environment

Why regulated industries are different, the compliance paradox, and the three phases most practices move through.

  3. 1

Technical Knowledge: The Starting Point (Not the Goal)

Why your expertise built the business, and why it will eventually limit it.

  4. 2

    Systemisation: Turning Knowledge into Process

Getting the business out of your head and into repeatable systems people actually use.

  5. 3

Staffing: Building a Business That Doesn't Need You Daily

Hiring and managing roles that support systems, not personalities.

    Automation: Scaling What Already Works

The evidence automation principle, and why you systemise before you automate.

  7. 5

Project Management: Turning Change Into Reality

Implementing change without breaking what already works. Sequence, small sprints, adoption.

  8. 6

Productisation: From Custom Work to Scalable Offers

Selling outcomes instead of time and effort, and what predictable revenue changes.

  9. 7

Industry Leadership: Building Trust Beyond the Business

Authority that comes from systems, not opinions. Thought leadership without the cringe.

  10. 8

The Asset Phase: Optionality, Investment, and Exit

Building a business that gives you choices, not obligations.

  11. 9

What You Have Built: Arriving at RUN™

Regulatory-Ready by Design, Unified Operations, Navigable by People. The destination, named.

  12. App. A

Self-Assessment: Where Are You in the Framework?

A structured reflection to find your starting chapter.

Where the book ends up

A practice that RUNs

What the nine chapters build, together

Regulatory-Ready

Evidence isn't assembled. It already exists, because every piece of work produced it.

Unified

One source of truth. Connected systems, so nobody has to be the bridge between them.

Navigable

The practice passes the holiday test. Not because of heroes, because of design.

"The way out of that paradox is not to work harder at compliance. It is to build a practice where compliance is the exhaust of operations done well."

About the author

"This book is what we learned along the way. It is not a compliance manual. There are plenty of those. It is not a technology guide. The tools matter less than the thinking that drives how you use them."

Questions

Before you order.

Is the book only for migration agents?

No. It's written from migration and international education, but the framework applies to any compliance-heavy, knowledge-dependent business where evidence matters.

Do I need Educli to use the book?

No. The book is about how a practice is designed, not which software it uses. Educli is one way to implement the ideas, and the book is useful without it.

How much is postage?

Postage and handling depend on where we're sending the book. You'll see the exact amount at checkout before you pay.

How do I get the free copy with the Accelerator?

Join the Accelerator waitlist. When you enrol in the programme, a printed copy of Built to RUN is included. Joining the waitlist on its own doesn't include the book.

I already bought the book. Can I still join the Accelerator?

Yes. Contact us before you enrol and we'll talk it through.

Is the book compliance or legal advice?

No. It's a practical guide to building and running a practice. It doesn't replace legal advice or your own obligations under the rules that apply to your profession.

It ends with a practice that doesn't fear Friday afternoons.

The work is real, and it isn't fast. But it's finite, and it compounds.
